To start driving lessons you have to be 17 and in ownership of a Provisional Driving License, the cost of this license is presently £34 and payable to DVLA. At the bottom of this paragraph I’ve set up a link to help those who haven’t quite done this yet.

There is also a requirement for adequate eyesight too, the present guideline is to read a car number plate from 20.5 metres away.

I often get asked “How many hours will I need”?

Figures from ROSPA (The Royal Society For The Prevention Of Accidents) show that those candidates who pass their driving test require on average 50 hours of professional training.

In my opinion effective learning usually comes from regular lessons, 2 hours per week is generally enough depending on where you live.

Other weighting factors determining the length of training are talent, previous experience and additional practice with family or friends.

So after all the training is done, it’s ‘test day’. Test day is nothing to be scared of, you’ve got everything to gain and nothing to lose and if I’ve done my job properly and you’ve listened well ‘Test Day’ will just be a confirmation of all our hard work.
